There is a growing population of speakers of Mam and Kanjobal, two Mayan languages indigenous to Guatemala, enrolling in the public schools on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington. EL services for these students have more successful outcomes when staff receives training about important sociolinguistic and sociocultural information about these languages. This presentation concentrates on Mam, originally spoken in southern Guatemala.
